I had to make a triptych for a class project in experimental animation, and I knew that I wanted to do a sort of 80s montage of a group of friends just hanging out having a good time. I had a ton of fun making this, and honestly the whole process went really smoothly. The only real challenges I faced were making sure everything kind of made sense when having the three different scenes play out at the same time. Overall this was my favorite project I’ve worked on and the one I am the most proud of. The only thing I would change is maybe adding color, but not everything needs to be colored in order to say what it needs to say, so I’m not even sure If I would do that.

For this project, I was given different sounds and had to make an abstract music track. With the music that I made, I then had to create an abstract animation to go along with it. This was a new experience for me, and it was interesting for me to have to come up with ideas that needed to fit sounds that were abstract. It felt very open ended, but at the same time, it still had the constraint of needing to make sense with the sound/music.

This was a project I made in college for my portfolio. I wanted to try to see if I could make a more serious and spooky animation, because I felt most of the stuff I made up to that point was more silly. I really wanted to have a noir style look to it. I did research on how the character should look, and just the overall style of how it should fit together. I knew that it needed to be black and white, though blood should still retain its color to really stand out. I went with a watercolor styled background because I wanted it to look dingy to add mood.

For the story, I knew from the beginning I wanted it to be a story that repeats itself, like a cycle. I’ve always liked stories in media that makes the beginning and end almost the exact same.
